Autograph Letter Signed, to Dr. Maton, Spring Garden, recommending a candidate for the expected vacancy for surgeon or assistant surgeon at the Westminster Hospital, “a gentleman of talent and a scholar”. 1 page 7½ x 4½ inches, in good condition, with the integral address leaf, torn at seal opening.f 2 November 1817. A good letter by John Cartwright (1740-1824), the ‘Father of Reform’ and political writer. “He had the medical care for 12 months of my friend White, who, as well as his lady, speaks of him in the highest terms.”
