A series of 10 Autograph Letters Signed (including one correspondence card), together with the printed invitation to Sir Richard Burton’s funeral, all addressed to Mrs. White Cooper, discussing visits, several mentioning Richard Burton (”waiting at Venice for me”), a visit to Professor Owen, the Queen’s gracious acceptance of her book, appointments with publishers with Richard (1878), and one longer letter written on board ship off Port Said (7 January 1876) describing the voyage and their visit to Trieste. 20 pp., various sizes, legible and in good condition. With the black edges funeral card, inscribed on verso by Isabel: “Lady White-Cooper & family”. Various London addresses, also Trieste, Port Said, 1875-1885 and undated. Isabel Burton (1831-1896), author and traveller, wife of Sir Richard Burton (1821-1890). Sir William White Cooper (1816-1886), surgeon, was a pupil of Sir Richard Owen. Isabel Burton writes: “I feel that you take a pleasure in my little successes & I am very pleased & happy because the Queen has been so gracious as to accept my book. Also the Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Edinburgh, The D of Cambridge & the Queen of the Netherlands, & it is on its round to the Empress of Austria – I am now getting some nice reviews.” Also in the collection is a little autograph card, which reads: “A thousand thanks for your sweet flowers. Isabel Burton. 17 June.” Richard Burton’s funeral was at Mortlake on 15 June 1890.
