Date illegible. William Brockedon (1787-1854), painter, author, and inventor. His works included Illustrations of the Passes of the Alps; Italy, Classical, Historical and Picturesque; some of the letterpress for David Roberts’s Views in the Holy Land, Syria, &c. His inventions included various applications of vulcanised india-rubber. In 1830 he took an active part in the formation of the Royal Geographical Society.
