Athens, 20 June 1860. “You are perhaps aware that the two present Vol. are to be followed by two on the East, and then by two on Greece, with a chapter on present affairs in Italy …” Fredrika Bremer (1801-1865), Swedish novelist, author of ‘Hertha’ and ‘Father & Daughter’, advocated the emancipation of women. Female education and political emancipation were interests acquired during her visits to Great Britain and the U.S.A.. She travelled widely in Europe and the Levant and published two volumes of impressions.
