Description

Autograph Letter Signed ‘Thomas Boys’, to “Dear Mogford”, about Edward Goodwin, “a sad bragger”, possibly an artists’ agent, and asking for exhibition tickets for himself. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condiiton, one small paper thin. 81 Great Titchfield Street, 18 December 1848. Uncommon. Thomas Shotter Boys (1803–1874), English watercolour painter and lithographer. His correspondent is likely to be Henry Mogford, the exhibition organiser, who was closely associated with the Great Exhibition at the Crystal Palace in 1851. “Have you no tickets to give a poor devil as free entry of any Exhibition, ever? I should be much obliged to you as I can afford none and sometimes I believe you have such things.”
