Autograph Letter Signed ‘Yours most truly, J.P.Benjamin’, to “My dear Webster”, thanking him for the affectionate letter, hoping to meet in London, and agreeing to give him a book from Benjamin’s library. 1½ pages 7 x 4½ inches, in fine clean condition. 41 Avenue d’Iéna, Paris, 13 February 1883. Judah Philip Benjamin, QC (1811 –1884), lawyer and politician who was a United States Senator from Louisiana, a Cabinet officer of the Confederate States and, after his escape to the United Kingdom at the end of the American Civil War, an English barrister. “As to a book from my library you shall, my dear friend, make your own choice, and it will be a most pleasurable memory to me to think that it should be valued by you as a personal reminiscence, of Yours most truly J.P.Benjamin.”
