Autograph Letter Signed ‘Stanley Baldwin’, as Chancellor of the Exchequer, in the month before he succeeded Bonar Law as Prime Minister, to Mrs. Woodward, thanking her for her letter, but warning that “all men are speaking too well of me”. 2 pp. 8 x 5 inches, in good condition. Stanley Baldwin (1867-1947), Earl Baldwin, became Prime Minister (1923-24, 1924-29, 1935-37). “It is a dangerous time and I promise you it won’t turn my head… But one keeps on, trying to run straight in a difficult time. But then all times are difficult and always have been to those in high places.”
