Madras, 23 November [watermark 1807]. Uncommon. Lieutenant-General Sir Samuel Auchmuty (New York, 1756-1822) fought as a loyalist, during the American War of Independence. He later served in India, Alexandria, the Buenos Aires expedition of 1806-07, and in 1810 was appointed to command the Madras Army. He commanded the expedition organized for the conquest of Java in 1811.
