A long Autograph Letter Signed ‘Ampthill’, to one of his predecessors as Governor of Madras, Sir Mountstuart Grant Duff, describing the successes of the Forest Department. 8 pp.8 x 5 inches, in good condition. Government House, Madras, 4 December 1902. Arthur Oliver Villiers Russell, 2nd Baron Ampthill (1869-1935), Governor of Madras 1900-1906. When Lord Curzon’s tenure as Viceroy came to an end in 1904, Russell was chosen to act as the Viceroy of India until the appointment of a new Viceroy. Russell served from April to December 1904 as Viceroy of India.
